529 college savings plan and how it fits in your estate plan

How about your grandchildren's college education with a 529 college savings plan and how it fits in your estate plan? Hey guys, today we're gonna talk about your grandchildren's college education, or maybe even your own children's college education.

One of the things we do a lot on here is we're constantly talking about the dangers of probating or the dangers of not setting up your estate plan. But one of the cool things that we see that I probably don't share enough, is the success stories that are out there.

So recently, we had somebody pass away, and that's the sad part. But they had done a lot of planning. Now, this person had four grandchildren, and one of the things that they had done, that I thought was really cool is that as part of their revocable living trust-centered estate plan, because all of these grandchildren are still minors, they asked me to put, and we did, in the revocable living trust-centered estate plan, we did four specific gifts to each one of these grandchildren.

Now, the money that they set aside for them was not directly to the grandchild. But what they did instead is we designated $20,000 to go into each child's 529 plan here in Oklahoma. They're still minors and that money is gonna continue to grow, probably for another 10 years for each of the kids. Actually, a little bit longer for the newest baby that just came along before they passed away. But how cool a gift is that?

I know college is getting so expensive. But when they finally do reach the age where they're gonna be going to university, each one of them are gonna have a nice little nest egg that their grandparent had put away for them almost 10, 15 years earlier. I mean, how cool is that that you're able to provide and help pay for your grandchild's education almost 10, 15 years later. And I don't know. I just think that's really cool and it's one of the success stories, so.

Unfortunately our client did pass away. But in addition to providing for their own children, they had separately set up money to go to the college funds for each one of their grandchildren. And it doesn't have to be $20,000. It could have been 2,000, 4,000. Whatever it is that somebody can afford.

But just think about, now, I know right now with everything that's going on that the markets aren't great. But just think over the long term, what 10 or 15 years, how that money can grow and how much good it can do to help offset some of the cost of university many years later, a decade later. So I just wanna share that one story with you guys.

Like I said, we were sad that our client passed away. But it really was a nice gesture and it was just kind of a good feeling of what they were able to pass forward. And they knew they were gonna do it, so something that they were able to pass forward and they knew, they were happy that they were able to do it. And their grandchildren will continue to remember that gift for many years.

Y no sé.
